The winter Robin

The Robin has featured a number of times in my Christmas cards this Christmas, this all started when I was asked to do a couple of Christmas cards for The peaches Womb foundation trust, which was an incredible honour back in November.
At the time I had no idea what image I was going to create. After a bit of research I decided to do a dove as my first one with the background as Bethlehem all lit up. They asked for a religious one and a none religious one.
So for the second card featured in this blog I can credit my mum who said why don't you paint a robin in a churchyard with Carol singers in the background. Well the carol singers didn't make it into any of my paintings but the Robin and church yard did. In fact they made it into two. So I created this robin one for the Foundation trust, I liked it so much that I painted the same robin for my own series. Before this I showed the original to a friend and she asked me to do a commissioning for her restaurant. In the end I decided that I would include the Robin in this painting as well which featured a window looking into the restaurant. I enjoyed painting the Robin so much I did the same scene but with the church background a little changed for my own series of cards which are still available here on my website.
Finally I have included a version of the Robin in the painting I am doing to be sent as an e-card and out to the local neighbours. As you can imagine Christmas is a busy time so I have not finished it yet. Hoping to get it out sometime during Christmas.

The Robin is a typical bird of winter and Christmas, The robin is a sign of the season of Christmas and also a new season that is coming. We believe that as we come into a New year a new season is coming for all of us. The Red breast of this majestic bird reminds us of the blood of Christ which is the climax the Christmas story ends in as it is not when the baby is born that is just the beginning.
